Watch the First Hour of Power

Taped January 18, 1970

Aired on February 1, 1970 on KTLA LA

The Date and Time in

Garden Grove, California is:

Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become as a sounding brass or a clanging cymbal. And though I have the gift of prophesy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, though I have all faiith, so that I could remove all mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. And though I bestow all of my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, but have not love, it profits me nothing. Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in truth; bears all things, belives all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails. But whether there are prophesies, they will fail; whether there are tongues, they will cease; whether there is knowledge, it will vanish away. For we know in part and we prophesy in part. But when that which is perfect has come, then that which is in part will be done away. When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child; but when I became a man I put away childish things. For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall know just as I am also known. And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love. - I Corinthians 13: 1-13

Impromptu speaker at the July 23 Sunday Evening Service at Shepherd’s Grove

A well respected Orange County business man and former Shepherd’s Grove board member, Jack Chalabian and also long time friend and advisor to the late Dr. Robert H. Schuller stood up during the service and asked to be heard. His request was granted. Here is what he had to say.

Over the past few months he has tried to set up meetings with church leaders, Bobby Schuller, Chad Blake and Russ Jacobson to discuss either buying the Shepherd’s Grove property or to buy 200 acres a few miles west of Shepherd’s Grove and build a new church facility on that property. He has the money for either option.

One would think leadership would be delighted to discuss this matter with him. However, he is being stonewalled at every turn by the leaders named above.

So, now this gentleman went over the heads of church leadership and took the matter to those in church membership that attended the Sunday Evening Service. No doubt the word will now spread about this gentleman’s intention to help the congregation Crystal Cathedral/Shepherd’s Grove to be involved in this matter.

In our opinion, leadership works for the congregation and the decisions about acquiring suitable property that is owned by the congregation at large is the road to stability. Renting the property that Shepherd’s Grove Church now occupies means that any modifications to the church building or other properties must be restored if the church moves to another facility. Owning either that property or acquiring the 200 acres and building a new church building suitable for Protestant worship is ideal.

What can you do as a member of Shepherd’s Grove congregation? Call the church and express your opinion. Demand answers and spread the word to other members of the congregation that did not attend. The phone number to the church is (714) 971-4000.

Shepherd’s Grove names new Choir Director

Dr. Irene Mess0loras has been named the new director of the Hour of Power Choir. She studied at UCLA and was mentored by Don Neuen for the past twelve years where she obtained her Master Degree and Doctorate. In her interview with Bobby Schuller, she mentioned that in her opinion, the Hour of Power Choir is the best choir on the planet.

Long time friend of Dr. Robert H. Schuller passed away Thursday morning.

Jack Chalabian

Jack Chalabian in his early years worked at the Los Angeles Times in the distribution department. Being an industrious individual he saw the end of the corner news boy hawking papers from the corner news stand. He founded K-Jac Industries and invented the coin operated news stand to dispense newspapers.  His invention, ,manufactured at his factory in Gardena. California soon became a fixture on almost every street corner.

Jack was on the board at the former Crystal Cathedral and Shepherd’s Grove Church. His most recent endeavors were to either buy the Shepherd’s Grove property for the congregation or buy 200 acres he had located and build a new church on it.  See “Impromptu Speaker” below

UPDATE: Services for Jack Chalabian will be held Friday, Septermber 15, 2017 , 11:30 am at United Armenian Congregation Church at 3480 Cahuenga Blvd., West Los Angeles, CA 90068

Oops. . . Awe shucks! Who made the boo, boo and forgot World Wide Commnunion Sunday? Seems to us to be a very important Sunday in the Church year to just be tossed off like a dirty rag. Shame, Shame! Maybe next year it will be remembered.
