The ambiguity of the Crystal Cathedral Covenant and the Devil’s Disciple?

Crystal Cathedral Worship Choir and Worship Team Covenant

Indeed it came to pass, when trumpeters and singers were as one, to make one sound to be heard in praising and thanking the Lord, and when they lifted up their voice with the trumpets and cymbals and instruments of music, and praised the Lord...that the house, the house of the Lord, was filled with a cloud so that the priests could not continue ministering because of the cloud; for the glory of the Lord filled the house of God.

2 Chronicles 5:13-14

As a volunteer worship choir/worship team member, I am committing to be a part of the Worship Ministry team at the Crystal Cathedral where we strive to inspire and motivate people through positive uplifting worship, into a loving relationship with Jesus Christ so that they can become the persons God desires, dreams and desires them to be.

As a member of the Crystal Cathedral Worship Ministry team, I understand that I play  a vital roll to welcoming in the Spirit of the Lord into God’s house, and therefore it is important that I believe in my heart and confess with my mouth that God is my Heavenly Father, Jesus Christ is my Lord and Savior, and the Holy Spirit is my guide. I believe that the Holy Bible, both the Old and New Testament is the authoritative and infallible Word of God and is the ultimate source of guidance for our entire lives.

As a Member of the Worship Ministry team, I understand that I am in a spiritual leadership position and therefore it is essential for me to maintain a Christian lifestyle both in and outside of the Crystal Cathedral Ministry, as it is recorded in Ephesians 5”1-20. I agree that my roll as a member of the Worship Ministry team is crucial to the spiritual growth and success of the Crystal Cathedral Ministry’s congregation and viewer audience and I will seek to be an example of beliefs taught by the Crystal Cathedral Ministry under the Lordship of Jesus Christ.

I understand that in an era where images of family relationships and personal sexuality are often confused, Crystal Cathedral Ministries believes that it is important to teach and model the biblical view. I understand that Crystal Cathedral Ministries teaches that sexual intimacy is intended by God to only be within the bonds of marriage, between one man and one woman.

In keeping with Matthew 18:15, I will be committed to sharing and complaints and issues only with the people involved. I commit to refrain from idle gossip and words of divisiveness and will strive to build  up fellow team members, church leadership, and congregation members of the Crystal Cathedral Ministries. I will not discuss and unresolved issues with anyone other than the person(s) involved along with the Minister of Worship. I understand that the standards of the Crystal Cathedral Ministries does not tolerate profanity or obscenity in word or action, dishonor to the Holy Trinity, the Word of God, or disrespect to personnel, congregation members, or visitors of Crystal Cathedral Ministries.

I believe that accountability is necessary for my personal benefit as well as the benefit of the each Worship Ministry team member. Therefore, I will have confidence in, faithfully support and gratefully submit to our Lead Pastor and our Minister of Worship through my prayers, words and positive attitude, looking to them as leadership which the Lord has put over me. (Hebrews 13:17-180

As the writer of this editorial, I apologize to Scott V. Smith, the Crystal Cathedral Worship Minister for confusing him with another Scott V. Smith that was involved in producing the movie, “Drunk on Harley.” How could this happen? Frankly, there were others involved in the research including a news agency that was following the same Internet links outlined at the bottom of this page. Obviously, those web sites have their information incorrect. Therefore, I am updating my

A major ambiguity surfaces between our traditional ministry and the second sentence of the last paragraph of the cultish “Worship Covenant” in the blue panel to the right, which states: “Therefore,  I will have confidence in, faithfully support and gratefully submit to our Lead Pastor and our Minister of Worship through my prayers, words and positive attitude, looking to them as leadership which the Lord has put over me.” When I read the words, “gratefully submit...” I couldn’t help but think the implied intent is to encourage them to “gratefully grovel to our Lead Pastor and our Minister of Worship.” That word “SUBMIT” is vernacular of a cult.

With increasing frequency as of late.we are hearing from the pulpit, “God told me!” As Angie Schuller Wyatt points out in her blog on “Ministry Hijacked” and posted on this site, declaring “God told me” is a way of shirking personal responsibility. That way, if something goes wrong, blame God instead of oneself. I would think both Angie and I would agree that God does communicate with humans through ideas and impressions, and yes, also gives us big dreams. However, as Dr. Robert H. Schuller has stated many times, “If God gives you a big dream, expect to pay a big price for it.”

If the reader thinks I am angry, perhaps I am. What do I have to be  angry  about?   I  am  angry  because I have been around the Crystal Cathedral for a  long time now, and I have watched  Dr. Robert H. Schuller and his wife Arvella give up everything for the

church for over fifty-five years only to have it all destroyed in under two years. Certainly over that period news articles were published but they were all positive without a hint of scandal. Now, everything published is negative and all we get from the Pulpit from the current leadership is, “Don’t believe everything you read in the press.”  However, no matter how they try to spin, cover up, and paint a rosy picture, the truth eventually surfaces – piece by piece the puzzle begins to fall into place.

As if I were not disgruntled enough by what is happening to our beloved Crystal Cathedral, and Dr. And Mrs. Schuller, we were admonished from the Pulpit by lay minister, Jim Penner, “Don’t come in here if you have an agenda!  If you have an agenda, leave it outside before you come in.” How arrogant, I thought, but I also believe the current leadership knows their days are numbered. Hopefully it is only a matter of time before unseen forces unseat them from their positions of power before they completely destroy what Bob and Arvella spent a lifetime building. It would be a blessing if Gretchen Schuller Penner, the self-proclaimed “anointed prophet of the Lord” apologizes and immediately turns in her resignation. No, I’m not kidding! It has become common knowledge on the campus. Meanwhile, Sheila continues in true Pentecostal tradition to “dance around in the Pulpit of a denominational Reformed Church of America. Will speaking in “tongues” be next?

editorial to affirm that Scott V. Smith, Crystal Cathedral Worship Minister, is NOT associated with the “Drunk on Harley” movie.

So, who is the “Devil’s Disciple? Since this editorial was first posted, it was never Scott V. Smith, nor was it intended to be. It is about the distinction between the founding leadership of the Crystal Cathedral that had the dream and the vision to build a Ministry to the Greater Glory of God and the message to lead those without faith to become followers of Jesus Christ, and the new leadership doing their best to lead it down a path which will result in its destruction.

In my opinion, the complete polar shift by the new leadership of the church represents the Devil’s Disciple! Angie Schuller Wyatt is more than savvy in her view that the ministry was hijacked from her father, Robert A. Schuller. We really don’t know who instigated the family feud that developed, and escalated, leading to Robert A. Schuller’s resignation as Senior Pastor.

My fear is the current leadership is destroying every fabric of what this World Wide Ministry was built upon. Its image in the eyes of the World has become tarnished as it is dragged through the mire of bankruptcy and negative publicity. It is being dragged down into what can only be described as a cult. Yes, I said cult! In a cult, one is either with it or against it. Essentially, we long time members are being told if our agenda differs from theirs, get out. Go to some other church! Think about it. Cults issue papers like the “Worship Covenant.”

Editor’s Note: This editorial was originally based on Internet research of Scott V. Smith and furnished to us by other interested individuals and progressed as follows: The web site, IMDb – and returns the heading “Scott V. Smith.” On that page, under the heading “Filmography” It lists Scott as Associate Producer, Scott V. Smith 1999 “Blur of Insanity” and also, composer, “That’s My Dog” TV series. That information led us to SVS Music Productions, Scott V. Smith’s web site.  Listed under the heading, “Film and Television” the last item entitiled “That’s My Dog.” It is that connection that led to the “Blur of Insanity” web site  In the upper left hand corner is the “HOTLIST.” The first item listed is the movie, “Drunk on Harley” which lists Scott V. Smith as the Associate Producer.

The object of Penrod Schoefield’s editorial is not to besmirch the character of Scott Smith. Whether or not he is involved in the production of this movie twelve years ago does not really matter. At this point, Scott V. Smith denies his involvement in the production and others have now stepped forward in his behalf.  The real issue is the inept leadership  now in control of the Crystal Cathedral Ministries and leading this great ministry down the path of destruction as demonstrated with their “Ambiguous Covenant.”
